Summer was kicked off with a very significant event when my oldest son graduated from high school! I imagine our summers will never be the same.
Mid-June I drove my Dad (and my daughter) to Texas so we could see my sisters and their families. The highlight of the trip for me was being with family. The highlight for my daughter was getting to give hand-signals to Shamu at Sea World. (bottom left in the collage)
Golf dominated the Smith family summer with rounds that involved just playing with the family while the deer occasionally looked on, taking 2nd place in Jr. PGA events, and being a part of the First Tee Celebrity Golf tournament. Eleven Gold Medal Olympians and an ESPN sports announcer participated. Lydia is pictured below with Brandi Chastain – Women’s Soccer. Carter is with Mike Eruzione – Ice Hockey (Remember the movie “Miracle” based on the 1980 winter Olympics when the USA team upset the Soviets? Eruzione scored the winning goal!) Another picture shows Carter with Lisa Leslie – WNBA and Team USA Women’s Basketball.
Other fun activities included fishing, minor league baseball, and ice-cream on the downtown square while listening to some 50’s music.
Only one picture not involving my family made it to my summer summary collage and that is the one of the unique tree I saw in Texas…it’s so whimsical that I couldn’t resist taking a picture. It reminds me of the trees found on the pages of a Dr. Seuss book about a far-away imaginary land.
I don’t need exotic trips to far-away places. I don’t need a cruise ship to take me where I want to go. I just need my family. And, that is what made this summer just right for me. (However, a trip to the beach next year would be nice!)
