Frantic Stew: A Quick Crockpot Recipe

But he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast. Proverbs 15:15b

Fall his here!  To me that means snuggly blankets, slipper socks, yoga pants and comfort food(hence the need for the yoga pants). Fall also means that school activities are in full swing and the evenings are packed with homework, practices, and various other seasonal events.  Those two things do not have to be at odds!

Today I want to share a quick crockpot recipe that my mother-in-law introduced me to.  She calls it Frantic Stew.  You can easily throw it together as you leave in the morning, and enjoy this warm, comfort food when you get home from your busy day.  No chopping required!  I have tried several variations of this recipe, but this is the one I like the best.

What You will Need:franticstew

  • stew meat
  • dry onion soup mix
  • beef broth
  • cream of mushroom soup
  • rice

Combine stew meat, soup mix, beef broth. Add water if needed to cover the meet.  Cook all day on low in the crockpot.  About a half hour before dinner, add the cream of mushroom soup.

Serve over rice.

Even my daughter who is a picky eater LOVES this stew.  If you wanted to add veggies, I sure you could.

I do something very similar….just use cream of chicken instead of mushroom (we don’t like mushrooms). I never thought about using stew meat! I usually use what ever steak I have in the freezer. One of my most favorite quick meals!

Saw this post on pinterest…thinking about making it with chicken and chicken broth instead of beef and beef broth….sounds Delish!

I bet that would be good. What would you serve that with? Rice? Maybe through in some frozen peas and carrots. Yum!

Would it be good if you mix the rice in with the beef in the crockpot? I’ve had the beef in the crockpot all day and I’m debating on throwing in some rice 30 min before its done.
