The Mullen’s Summer Highlights

This entry is part 1 of 7 in the series Summer Highlights

Every day this week, the MOMS will share with you our summer highlights. We hope you enjoy the glimpse into our individual lives and families.

The Mullen’s Summer Highlights

By: Jennifer Mullen

This was the first summer in six years that I wasn’t morning sick, miserably pregnant, nursing, or sleep training.  I truly feel refreshed!  We are so grateful that we are transitioning into a family without babies/toddlers!  FINALLY, I have hit my stride in motherhood!

Having said that we had some bittersweet moments.  First, my eldest graduated pre-school. Second,  we had a garage sale to sell all of our baby items: high chair, pack-n-play, carseat, strollers, bouncer…yeah.  I thought I was going to love that until the sweet little couple who bought the pack-n-play broke it down and shoved it in their car.  I cried like a baby, and it wasn’t pretty! Mosaic of Moms Women’s Bible Study

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17

By: Jennifer Mullenwomen's bible study

During this season of my life, nothing has encouraged me more than being around other women who share their lives in authentic ways. For the past six years, I have been involved with a weekly bible study with a group of women from our church.  Having a diversity of thought, backgrounds, and age within our group has brought me so much perspective in my day to day walk with the LORD.what-happens-when-women-walk-in-faith

Serving the LORD through the act of encouraging women and teaching them about the Word is a passion of ours.  Having said that we are excited to announce that Mosaic of Moms will be starting a bible study on Thursday nights beginning September 12th.  We will meet at 8:00 p.m. every Thursday. (Location TBA- Contact us for more info.)  No, you don’t have to be a mom to join us.  This is open to all women!

This semester we will be working through Lysa TerKeurst’s book What Happens When Women Walk in Faith. No matter where you are at in your walk with God, this book will stretch you.  If you are a babe in Christ or a seasoned warrior, the LORD has more for you.  In this book we will take a deep look at the calling of Abraham and the five phases that he went through to realize the fulfillment of that calling.  Lysa then helps you to identify what stage you are in on the road to the fulfillment of your own calling.

If you are interested in joining us and/or for more details including the location of our meet-ups, please contact at or on our Facebook page for more details.

An Open Letter to My Daughter’s Kindergarten Teacher

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26

Dear Mrs. Kindergarten Teacher,

Today I will entrust you with my firstborn.   She is my joy.  She is my hopes and my dreams incarnate.  From the very beginning she has kept me on my toes, and I am sure you will be no different.  She is so ready to learn! I see so much potential for her life and her calling.

Please… Continue reading

The MOMS are in Time Out

“To everything there is a season…” Ecclesiastes 3:1a

By: Jennifer Mullen

(Scroll to the bottom to see the survival guide.)

Everything has its season. Being a teacher, I have kept a school calendar since I started kindergarten…well I guess that would be since I knew what a calendar was. 🙂 It is summer time, and it is time to refuel!

The MOMS feel that it is time to take a sabbatical from the blog.  Gretchen and I both have children who will be entering kindergarten in a few weeks.  Sarah’s eldest child will be starting his college career.  Dana is busy making preparations for the next year as co-coordinator of her MOPS group. Jennifer Clark is on her summer break at school.  And Kerri is adjusting to her new surroundings half-way across the world.  It is vital that we recognize the importance of transition for each of these seasons in our own lives and allow ourselves to give undivided attention to our situations. We plan to return in mid-August. New Creation: A Study of Butterflies

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

By: Jennifer Mullen

As a teacher by trade, I often find myself wanting to push my children academically to learn new skills, but I have learned that as a mother of a toddler and of a preschooler my role as a teacher is so much more fun than skill and drill.  I get to show the world to my children, and in turn I get to see the world through their eyes.

I have resigned to follow their curiosities about life instead of forcing skills that will come with time.  My five-year-old daughter has shown a great interest in butterflies so we embarked on a four-week journey to learn all we can about butterflies. Continue reading
