Polina’s Promise: A story of hope, redemption, and dreams come true

“I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist him.” Job 29:12

I have a story to share with you. It’s a story that shows the power of God and how deep a mother’s love can go. The main characters in my story are Continue reading

Living the adventure…and trying to stay in the boat

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

By: Dana Baran

I came to the realization at the beginning of this summer that I was beginning to lose my sense of adventure, that I was letting motherhood overshadow my desire to try new things and take risks. It took the challenge of climbing out of the boat and onto a small inflatable tube to reignite my passion for adventure (for the full story click here). Continue reading

God’s Best vs. Your Plans

“Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do.” Ephesians 6:1

By: Jennifer Mullen

Lately I have felt like a broken record.  The two things I hear myself saying over and over to my kids are “Obey right away” and “You get what you get, and you don’t throw a fit.”  (I know…I know “get” and “fit” don’t rhyme…unless you live in the South!)

As I was saying, I catch myself saying these two phrases over and over!  In a moment of frustration I angrily poured out my heart to the Father. “Why don’t they get it?  Why don’t they ever pay attention to me?  Why are they so ungrateful?”  And then the still, small voice began to whisper His truths to me. Reparando

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.”

Isaiah 61:1-3

My family has been blessed with the addition of two beautiful little boys who were adopted from Guatemala by my older brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Amelia Moore. Scott and Amelia are two of the most creative people I know and the Lord has blessed them beyond measure with the artistic gifts and talent to create inspiring art, photographs, and music as well as compelling stories through film. Amelia is a professional photographer (if you read People Magazine you might have seen her work on the front page a month or so ago because she shot the wedding of MTV’s Kristin Cavallari and Chicago Bears Quarterback Jay Cutler. If you live in the Nashville area, hire her! She does amazing work. See below of my family.).

Scott is a professional film maker and has written, produced and basically created from inception to completion two documentaries about Guatemala, along with some other short projects. Continue reading

Clean

Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.  Psalms 51:2

B: Gretchen Speer

We are not big car wash people.  My van is almost always dirty, both inside and out, and I’m okay with that.  That’s just how we roll…literally.  But, after a quick trip back to visit family and several stretches on country roads you could hardly tell what color our van was.  I tried to convince my husband that the muddy brown hue complemented the blue, but he wasn’t having it.  So off to the car wash I went.

Somehow I ended up running this errand alone (Which is odd because my kids LOVE the car wash!).   As usual, as I sat in the quiet, the Holy Spirit began to speak.

“Does this process seem familiar?”

“Yes, I’ve been to the car wash several times before……….ahhh.  My heart needs this process just as much as my van does.” Continue reading
